‘Vivid’ Botanic Gardens Sydney
27 May 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 18 June 2016 @ 11:00 pm
FreeVivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas will light up the Royal Botanic Garden to celebrate our 200th birthday. Entry through Queen Elizabeth II Gates via the Opera House Forecourt. Every night, 27 May – 18 June, 6pm – 11pm.
Take a glittering journey through the Royal Botanic Garden as grand installations and 3D mapped projections dazzle and delight creating a wonderland of shimmering trees and dazzling bushes. As you pass the colonial sea wall at Farm Cove that is transformed into a glimmering stretch of light art, step into the 60 metre long Cathedral of Light, an immense arched tunnel made of tens of thousands of white LEDs which radiate gentle but brilliant light from all angles.
Leave the Cathedral of Light and enter an even more extraordinary zone, where giant figs have been video-mapped and used for projections, creating a magical world where nothing is what it seems.
Then express your feelings through touch at Sentiment Cocoon, the ultimate interactive installation that seeks to express human emotion through the medium of light. This collaborative project demonstrates the spirit of artistic community amongst the city’s creative practitioners during Vivid.
Public transport recommended. Limited parking available. Last entry 10.30pm each night.
Garden of Light is a collaboration between the Technical Direction Company HammerLighting Mandy lights and Ample Projects.
