Discover a region that is home to some of Western Australia’s finest private gardens, forests and magnificent displays of wildflowers in the company of long-time WA resident and gardener Julie Kinney.

Journey around the picturesque south-west corner of Australia and be immersed in a variety of breathtaking landscapes, from the splendour of Perth’s Botanic Gardens to the magnificent heights of the Valley of the Giants.

Meet the owners of gardens not normally open to the public and learn about Western Australia’s unique flora, Mediterranean climate and distinctive garden style. Uncover carefully cultured gardens bursting with springtime colour, including Margaret River’s Secret Garden, and explore the natural landscape on a guided wildflower walk of the wild Stirling Ranges.

Enjoy three nights in the captivating Margaret River region, sampling the region’s world-class wines, all against a backdrop of stunning landscapes and superb natural beauty.

Wednesday 21 October 2020 / Arrive Perth

Arrive in Perth on suggested Qantas flights and make your way to the hotel. Renaissance Tours or your travel agent can assist you with your flights and other travel arrangements.
Tour arrangements commence at 18:00 with a welcome briefing by your tour leader, Julie Kinney, followed by dinner with Julie and fellow tour members. (D)


Thu 22 Oct / Perth

Begin today with a guided tour of Kings Park and Botanic Garden. Perched above the city on Mount Eliza, Kings Park boasts breathtaking views of Perth CBD and the Swan River and features over 3,000 species of the state’s unique flora. Visit a stylish Mediterranean private garden before transferring to the historic port of Fremantle for a casual lunch on the waterfront. Then, after a walking tour through the area’s vibrant laneways and old streets, board a scenic afternoon cruise on the picturesque Swan River back to Perth. (BL)


Fri 23 Oct / Perth – Albany

Depart Perth and travel south into the state’s Great Southern Wheatbelt. Visit Pine Avenue, a large hilltop garden with stunning vistas over the surrounding pastoral landscape where deciduous trees form a backdrop for old-fashioned roses. Continue south to the historic port city of Albany, arriving in the late afternoon.(BLD)


Sat 24 Oct / Albany

Begin the morning with a historical walking tour of Albany town and stroll down the first street ever built in Western Australia, past the colonial-style buildings which have now been transformed into charming museums and boutiques. Transfer to the National Anzac Centre to visit this award-winning memorial. This afternoon visit two large private gardens on the outskirts of Albany and enjoy afternoon tea in the picturesque grounds. (BD)


Sun 25 Oct / Albany

This morning visit a working farm at the foot of the Stirling Ranges on the edge of the Stirling Range National Park. An hour’s drive from Albany, the Stirling Ranges are a plant and wildflower reserve of international significance, with over 1,500 plant species, rare orchids, mountain bells and banksias. Enjoy a guided walk in the ranges, followed by a picnic lunch.
Return to Albany in the mid-afternoon and enjoy the remainder of afternoon and evening at leisure. (BL)


Mon 26 Oct / Albany – Manjimup

Depart Albany and transfer to the Tree Top Walk in the Valley of the Giants to enjoy wandering through the forest canopy of Western Australia’s magnificent tingle trees. Continue to Manjimup in the Southern Forests region, stopping en route in Pemberton for lunch and to visit an idyllic private garden. Arrive in Manjimup, the truffle centre of Western Australia, check in and enjoy dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. (BLD)


Tue 27 Oct / Manjimup – Margaret River

Today, enjoy a leisurely day’s drive to the Margaret River region. Begin with a guided visit to a nearby cutting-edge apple packing facility, one of only four in the country, followed by a visit to a large private garden for morning tea. Continue to Bridgetown for lunch and to visit a private garden in the picturesque Blackwood River Valley region. Arrive in Margaret River and check in to the hotel. (BL)


Wed 28 Oct / Margaret River

Begin the day with a morning at leisure to further explore the region at your own pace.
Then, visit the immaculate Fraser Gallop Estate garden with its superb lake vista and formal parterre garden, colourful circular rose garden and avenues of magnificent trees.
Later, visit Downsouth garden, voted the best large garden by Gardening Australia in 2016, a stylish, cutting-edge succulent garden located at Smiths Beach with stunning views over the Indian Ocean. Continue to Secret Garden, just in time to see the glorious spring-time bloom of roses, wisteria and irises. Tonight, enjoy dinner in local restaurant. (BD)


Thu 29 Oct / Margaret River

This morning transfer to Voyager Estate for a visit to the winery and gardens. Explore the estate’s expansive grounds, including its ‘werf’ garden – a South African Cape Dutch-styled walled garden named for the Afrikaans word for ‘yard’, which originally formed an integral part of working farmsteads. Continue to another exquisite private garden before enjoying a wildflower walk in the area. Then, explore another private garden in a bushland setting around a billabong. (BL)


Fri 30 Oct / Margaret River – Perth

Depart Margaret River and visit Busselton Jetty, the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Embark on a leisurely drive north to Perth, and en route visit Orondo Farm and Gardens, a grand country garden framed by rugged bushland. Upon arrival in Perth in the late afternoon, join Julie and fellow tour members for a farewell dinner. (BLD)


Sat 31 Oct / Depart Perth

Tour arrangements conclude after breakfast.
